That said, basically nobody monitors Channel 9, the "emergency channel" Most times the *daytime* atmospheric static and engine static of cheap CB's kill reception beyond a couple miles. If you are interested in communicating with people in your immediate group, the new FRS hand held radios will do passably well if you keep line-of-sight with the other vehicle, and are cheaper compared to CB. But, the FRS radios need AA batteries, verus the cig lighter option with some CB's. CB works on the highway, because you can monitor truckers and keep abreast of road conditions.
