I'd say that is a doable amount of driving (we've had much longer
driving days). It'll just limit the amount of side trips and exploring
you can do. Remember that days are pretty short this time of year,
and you probably want to get settled into your camp and dinner cooked
while there is still light.

As for the vehicles and roads, they should be fine, especially if
there are a couple of experienced offroad driver in the group. The
worst section on your route is probably the short section of rocks
coming down the north side of Mengel Pass. You may want someone
spotting tire placement here. We took our stock (Upcountry pkg)
Grand Cherokee over this route last spring. We crossed it again
just over a week ago in a TJ. There were a couple of small Japanese
SUVs at Mengel Pass that had come up from Butte Valley. Cottonwood
Canyon was pretty easy last spring, but I don't know if summer rains
have changed that. The Hunter Mountain road was in good shape last
week. Just make sure you gas up before starting the Hunter Mountain/
Saline Valley route.
