When I last passed by in May 2000, there is one short spot right at the mouth of the canyon that is a chassis twister, probably 50' long or so. This spot causes a vehicle to flex in such a way as to lift a wheel on each axle. I had no trouble as I have 4x4, but a friend in a 2WD Explorer could not get across without getting up some speed, which really threw him around. Otherwise, the road was 2WD the entire length to Inyo Mine.
