This past March 9, while driving up Lippincott at night, I was very surprised to come across a Vanagon camping at the wide switchback just before the steep grade up to the racetrack. Don't think I'd be comfortable trying that. Most park roads however should be no problem for your VW. Check with rangers for current conditions. My concerns would be the condition of your engine and tires and having enough supplies in case of a breakdown. Lots O' water.........food.......

Don't mean to sound preachy, but any vehicle, especially when traveling alone, must be in excellent repair, and common sense can be your most valuable asset in the backcountry. It's a long way from any services.
