There are horseflies in some canyon washes, and in spring many wooded areas can be thick with minges in the morning and early evening. Certain times of year, particularly around resorts, there may be lots of common house flies. But honestly, when meeting folks from other parts of the world I frequently hear comments as to just how devoid the deserts are of flying pests, making time outside quite enjoyable -- except for the 115 degree temps, of course...
