As I recall from meterology class, David is correct. Death Valley's all-time high was 134 degrees F and Libya had the world's all time high with 136 F.

Of course, there are complaints that the temperature gauge equipment is stationed at Furnace Creek, which is not the lowest spot of the valley. AND there is a creek and green trees that lower the temperature due to evaporative cooling. There should be a station at Badwater to get the most out of the valley's heat.

I believe there has been a temporary station set up by a researcher for a summer or two at Badwater, but it wasn't an official station, so the temperatures recorded there don't count.
I don't remember what where the high temperatures he recorded, but i thought they were higher than 134 F.
