well, wildrose atation was in existance for a LONGGGGGGG time. it was a stage stop for wagons with a blacksmith shop available for repairs. i don't have the history facts down so i can't state too much without some written evidence. my parents are both still alive and can refresh my memory. my parents bought the place in 1965 and stayed until their 7 year lease was up and the park service would not renew the lease (lease on the land, we owned the structures). the reason given was that the canyon was flood prone and that a new highway was to be built bypassing the canyon (this was in 1971 and nothing has been done on a new highway). wildrose station was a very convenient stop for tourists entering the monument with gas, food and lodging. my parents made a real go of the business and had tons of repeat customers from all over the world. they had a love for the area and were able and proud to give helpful info on places and things to do on the traveler's agenda. closing this establishment was a hard blow to my family and made absolutely no sence at all :(
