Just note that the '320 watering places' publication dates to the early 1900's, and some of the springs and wells listed have gone dry or been covered up by dunes or otherwise lost. It also predates modern chemical analysis of water, the fact that the water from specific springs is said to be potable doesn't mean it's healthy to drink it long-term, e.g. a little arsenic won't kill you but if you drink it for long periods of time that's a different story. That said, it should still be a pretty good guide to the short-term potability of water from listed springs that *haven't* gone dry...
