Saline, Communication w/ the outside world

A favorite aspect of being in Saline has always been the no phones, no internet situation. I'm planning on going for Thanksgiving (Wed-Sun) but I've suddenly had some tough family shit happen, and am a little weirded out about being totally out of touch. I know this is totally blasphemous to ask, but: if I really needed to make a call or look at email, do folks have any experience of renting a satellite phone or using one of those internet cards you put into your computer to connect in remote places or any of that stuff? Or if anybody actually has such a thing that I could maybe use once or twice during the trip (I could cover costs). I hate to ask this, but if anybody has a tip I'd sure appreciate it.
