Bill, was that by any chance near the old road to Squaw Spring? Of course back then they would not have had GPS to lead them astray, but the topo maps still have that old road on them, so if they had an old map of some sort. Or they could have seen it and thought maybe it was the road to Mengel Pass. It would not have been the first time someone got confused and turned-around back in the pre-GPS days. Today, of course, they simply follow the GPS right off a cliff :).
