You are getting a lot of advice, so I'll throw my two cents worth in as well. Leave LV at something more like 5:00 am. If you want to sleep in, you should probably enjoy LV a little later and stay on the pavement through DV. Lippincott is slow going down because you don't want to slide off the edge. There isn't really a need to air down and I would definitely not do so with passenger tires. So long as you have a REAL spare you are going to be OK. I have gone over Mengel, Lippincott and a few others and had TWO flats over 15 years, (1) when I let a friend drive for a while and he liked the soft sides of roads (where rocks can cut into your sidewalls)and (2) when I picked up a nail (likely on asphalt as it was fairly new) and the slow leak finally flattened me out off road. The simple problem is you are driving too many miles and starting too late and then hitting the harder and more interesting parts in the dark. In the dark, the drive will take a lot longer (and add an intersting "where am I going and is it on the road" factor), so you don't want to start too late. Much better to get a really early start if you and your passengers want to do it.
