Somehow the word "shortcut and Lippincott" don't really go together. You could go back to Teakettle and take the Hunter Mountain road back to Saline Valley and out to 190, but again how much of a short cut that is you will have to let us all know what you think when you get back to LA.
It sounds to me like you are trying do alot in one day. My advice is slow down enjoy the trip, go down Lippincott spend the night at the springs and then head out to 190 the next day. Take alot to pictures and you will really have some stories to tell about your "4X4 adventure in Death Valley" at your next cocktail party.
