Campfire permits are issued solely for the information of the person on how to safely make a fire. There is no citation issued for not having one and generally if you are asked for one and don't have it, they will just write you one. If you start a fire and it gets away from you and you have failed to follow the rules as explained on the permit, then you can be held liable for suppression costs. But then if you let a fire escape and it has to be suppressed, even if you followed the rules you still might be held liable. It's nice that you can get one online though if you need a reminder on how to safely have a campfire.
