I've also often wondered how a lot of the heavy equipment up in the hills got there. For instance, on a hike up Thompson Canyon (armed only with pepper spray, but perhaps next time I'll take my 9mm along since it gets lonely being left behind and all), I couldn't help but wonder how they got all that stuff up there on the side of the canyon like that. I'm sure those old miners worked pretty darn hard, but I'm convinced their donkeys worked their asses off, so to speak!
