No clue at all, but I understand your puzzlement. My brother and I still hold mining claims that belong to our grandmothers cousin in Goler Canyon. The mine has a 2 {5/8"} cable system and headstall streached between the floor of the canyon and the mine. It's got to be around 900'. With my over 50 years of going out there, I still sit in the canyon {packing my S&W .45 of course} and wonder how they got those cables straight up the mountain. When you add all the heavy timber shoreing, a hundred pound anvil and hand bellows for sharpening steel you just have to wonder. I'm thinking the anvil and bellows came up in an ore bucket, but then they had to get the bucket up there too. You just have to figure that those old miners were some tough fellows that "got 'er done".
