When I was a kid (in the Inland Empire) we always called 'em horny toads. But matmiss is right, the proper name is horned lizard.
The pic shows one Australian critter I wish I'd seen during my trip: the thorny devil. I'm not sure what their range is, but they do live on the deserts around Uluru (Ayers Rock). The only one I did see was in the visitor's center display case. ;)
