One option is to take 395 south to Big Pine and top up with gas there. Then take 168 east for about a mile or two until it meets the Death Valley Road (I forget if the DV Road is dirt at that point, but it is signed). That road will lead you past the Eureka Dunes, Crater, Crankshaft Junction and then to the turn off to Ubehebe Crater. From Ubehebe you can go to the Racetrack. After seeing the racetrack, the best thing for a person traveling alone is to back-track a bit to Teakettle Junction and then head southeast through Hidden Valley and Ulida flat, over Hunter Mountain and connect with the Saline Valley road to go to highway 190. You can then take that east into the heart of the park and drive on pavement from there to Las Vegas. Too see the most sights, you might want to go via Badwater and out of the park on highway 178 to Shoshone. If you want more dirt roads, you could take the Harry Wade Rd. to the Owl Hole Springs road and then east, possibly detouring a few miles to see Saratoga Springs. Then head east to highway 127. From there it is south to I-15 at Baker. You will just need to get out some maps and figure out how much you want to deviate from the most direct route. CARRY LOTS OF WATER THIS TIME OF YEAR IN CASE OF A BREAKDOWN!!!!! The parts of this route from Stovepipe Wells and beyond are all at low elevation and will be very hot!!!
