Historically the approach through Warm Springs is the easier of the two routes. Its a fairly gentle climb out of the valley with only a few places that you'll actually need four wheel drive. I've used it many times whenever I had a heavy load or if Mengal Pass was covered with snow or ice. The DV Morning Report shows it as open however one good thunderstorm can change everything. Also, the old mining operation at Warm Springs makes for a good lunch stop or alternate camp site. Plenty of shade and running water to take the edge off. Hope this helps and be safe out there.
